AI video interview problems and how to fix them
Most AI video interview problems come from browser permissions, a weak connection or another app using the camera. Check all three ten minutes before you start, and keep the recruiter's email open in case something breaks.
If something fails mid interview, reload the page first. Many systems let you continue where you stopped.
Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Camera not found | Another app, such as a video call app, is using it | Close other apps that use the camera, then reload |
| Microphone is silent | Browser permission was blocked | Click the lock icon next to the address, allow the microphone, reload |
| The AI cannot hear you well | Background noise or a far away microphone | Use earphones with a microphone, move to a quiet room |
| Page freezes mid answer | Weak connection | Move closer to the router, switch off other downloads, reload |
| Link says expired | Many links work only for a set time | Email the recruiter at once and ask for a new link |
| Video is dark | Light behind you | Face a window or lamp, not your back to it |
A ten minute check before you start
- Open the link in Chrome, Edge or Safari, updated to the latest version.
- Close every other tab and app that might use the camera or microphone.
- Allow camera and microphone when the browser asks.
- Charge your phone or laptop, or plug it in.
- Run a speed test. A steady connection matters more than a fast one.
If it breaks mid interview
- Reload the page once. Many systems save your answers so far.
- If it does not come back, take a screenshot of the error.
- Email the recruiter within the hour with the screenshot and the time it happened, and ask for a new link.
- Do not start a second attempt from another device unless the recruiter says so.
A technical problem that you report quickly and politely rarely counts against you. Silence does.
Rehearse on the same device
On Just One Interview, you type the role and the skills you want tested, and an AI interviewer asks you the questions out loud. You get a report with a score for each answer and a count of your filler words. It runs in the browser on your phone, and the free plan includes 20 minutes of practice a month. A practice run on the same phone or laptop catches most problems before the real interview. See also AI video interview practice.
